Cookies are pieces of information that every website you
visit stores about you on your computer. It could be your
log-in details or know that you have visited the site before.
They are useful to have on your site as it saves customers
re-entering their details each time they but something.
If they type in a username, the delivery address, phone
number and email can come up automatically from the information
stored in the cookies. This makes the ordering process much
quicker and easier for the customer.
Cookies can also be used for storing simple information
such as the log-in username and password to acess the member's
area. All these time saving little tricks will make customers
warm to your site, meaning that they are more likely to
return again. Cookies can also be used to personalise your
visitors experience on your site. You could have a welcome
message on your home page that changes to include the visitors
name when they return. Remember to never store sensetive
information in cookies, such as credit card details.
